Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a graduate or PhD chemist to join our synthetic chemistry laboratories in Compton, Berkshire, UK. Our chemistry team works on a wide variety of synthetic targets such as carbohydrates, nucleosides, peptides, heterocycles and natural products. The projects in the lab also range from small milligram scale up to kilogram scale. The successful candidate will therefore have the opportunity to be exposed to many different chemistries and techniques. We would like to invite graduates and PhD chemists with a minimum three years of experience to apply.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Design and develop chemistry for custom synthesis projects and catalogue products
  • Carry out and accurately record characterisation and data analysis
  • Work efficiently in the laboratory to meet project deadlines
  • Prepare written reports for internal and external use
  • Perform all laboratory work in a safe manner and comply with all regulations, adhere to company policies
  • Share basic maintenance and housekeeping duties of laboratory equipment and chemistry laboratory areas

Requirements

  • Graduate in organic chemistry or PhD chemist with a minimum 3 years of experience
  • Proven record in  a wide range of organic synthesis techniques
  • A strong mechanistic understanding of synthetic chemistry
  • Experience within carbohydrate, nucleoside or related research is an advantage
  • Self-motivated, well organised and pro-active learner
  • Able to work within a team, communicating confidently both in writing and orally, often under pressure to meet deadlines
