A whistle-stop tour of all the things a founder should be thinking about when cash is in the bank.

Summary:

There's always lots of talks on how to raise funds, but what happens once you've actually done it? What should you be doing with all that cash in the bank now the runway is clear? From new hires, to managing your board to share schemes to intellectual property, there's a lot to think about.

If you want to know more about the key things that should be on your radar post raising the cash, this is the session for you.

Agenda:

In this highly practical 60-minute session, we will consider:

  • What does good board and stakeholder management look like? You agreed to all sorts of investor consent matters in the frenzy of negotiating the investment documents, but what does that mean on a day-to-day basis as your run the company? And how do you build the confidence and trust of your board?
  • From EIS and SEIS incentives to EMI schemes, it's a lot to get your head around. We'll run through what these acronyms mean, what they mean for your business, and what your next steps might be.
  • What arrangements should you be putting in place to protect your IP rights and build value? What types of contracts might you come across? What are the red flags? What can you do yourself and when should you reach out for help?
  • Finally, we'll look at employment and immigration hot topics. It's the people in your business that are going to be working alongside you, attracting investment, and driving growth. We'll answer your questions about getting overseas talent into your business, about best practice when it comes to on-boarding talent plus what to do when it doesn't work out and you need to part ways.

Who should attend?

Regardless of whether you have a lead investor on board or are simply wanting to get a head-start on planning, this practical session is for anyone wanting to get a concise overview of how to navigate the legal minefield of a start-up. There will be no long power point presentation, plenty of opportunities for questions and an interview format that keeps you engaged and learning through the jargon and detail.
